Tourism Ministry backs international concerts to boost arrivals - ANTARA News Jawa Timur
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Tourism Ministry reiterated its commitment to supporting concerts of international musicians through "Event by Indonesia" programme as part of a strategy to boost tourist arrivals.
"We run Event by Indonesia to strengthen the ecosystem for events while generating broader impacts for tourism and the public," the Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana told at a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday (Sept 15).
She said the ministry’s goal is to leverage Indonesia’s hosting of events as a way to attract tourists, empower micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), create jobs, and generate added economic value.
The government has contributed to the organisation of 105 events from January to July 2026, Wardhana added, including 18 national events, 10 international events, and 61 activities listed in the Karisma Event Nusantara calendar.
She also mentioned support for 14 agendas within the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector, as well as two local events.
Citing the official data, Wardhana noted those events benefited roughly 11,000 MSMEs and more than 184,000 art workers and community members, attracting over 6.47 million visitors and creating Rp1.09 trillion (around US$56 million) in economic impact.
Wardhana expressed confidence that Indonesia has what it takes to offer world-class event experiences to tourists.
"Therefore, we continue to encourage collaboration between the government, organisers, industry players, and stakeholders to strengthen Indonesia’s image as a destination of quality international events," she stated.
She emphasised Indonesia could present itself as a destination with diverse tourist attractions by hosting international music concerts, highlighting "YE Live in Jakarta 2026" slated for October 24.
"International music concerts provide more than entertainment. They can also stimulate the economy from tourism," she said.
Hosting such concerts, Wardhana noted, could catalyse the national economy on a broad scale by attracting foreign travelers, who will, in turn, spend on tickets, accommodation, transportation, culinary, and other goods or services.
